July 1: So it begins. Don't worry, this is not in the correct legal jurisdiction!

Bench Testing: Rotor

  1. Check rotor for open field windings by connecting ohmmeter across slip rings. Rotor resistance should be 2.8-3.0 ohms.
  2. Check rotor for shorts to ground by connecting ohmmeter leads between slip ring and rotor shaft. Continuity should NOT be present. Check slip rings for wear or pitting. Turn rotor on lathe if necessary. Check bearing and replace if necessary.
