DTC P0448 EVAP Vent Control Circuit Shorted

Wiring Diagram:

Circuit Description

An ignition voltage is supplied to the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister vent solenoid. The control module grounds the EVAP canister vent solenoid control circuit to close the solenoid by means of an internal switch called a driver. The scan tool displays the commanded state of the EVAP canister vent solenoid as ON or OFF. The control module monitors the status of the driver. If the control module detects voltage on the control circuit when the driver is commanded ON, DTC P0448 sets.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

- The EVAP Vent Control Circuit is a short to ground or battery condition exits.
- Ignition ON.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

- The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will illuminate.
- The ECM will record operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fail. This information will be stored in the Freeze Frame and Failure Records buffers.
- A history DTC is stored.

Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC

- The MIL will turn off at the end of 3 consecutive ignition cycles in which the diagnostic runs without a fault.
- A history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles without a fault.
- DTC(s) can be cleared by using the scan tool.

Diagnostic Aids

To locate an intermittent problem, command EVAP Vent Solenoid ON and OFF with the ignition ON and the engine OFF, with the scan tool. Wiggling wires while listening for the EVAP vent solenoid to stop clicking may locate a shorted solenoid or the area where a short to voltage in the wiring may exist. For intermittent conditions refer to Intermittent Conditions. Intermittents
