Timing Cover: Service and Repair




Engine Front Cover Replacement

Special Tools

* J 41476 - Front and Rear Cover Alignment Tool

* J-41480-A - Front and Rear Cover Alignment

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement Oil Pan Replacement.

2. Remove the crankshaft balancer.

3. Remove the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (V6) Service and RepairWater Pump Replacement (V8) Service and Repair.




4. Remove the engine front cover to cylinder block retaining bolts (1).

Important: The engine front cover gasket (3) is a single use only component and must be replaced whenever the engine front cover (2) is removed.


5. Remove the engine front cover (2) and gasket (3).

6. Remove the engine front cover gasket (3).
Discard the engine front cover gasket (3).

7. Clean and inspect the engine front cover.
Installation Procedure

1. Install the engine front cover.

2. Install the water pump.

3. Install the crankshaft balancer.

4. Install the oil pan.
