Lower Control Arm, Removing And Installing, With Automatic Transmission: Notes

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Removing 

-- Loosen the wheel bolts.

-- Raise the vehicle.

-- Remove the wheel.

-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .

-- Loosen the wheel housing liner in the rear area and fold forward.

-- Remove the nut -1-.

-- Remove the bracket -2- for the Left Front Level Control System Sensor -G78- or Right Front Level Control Sensor -G289- from the control arm -3-.

-- Remove the nuts -arrows-.

-- Remove the control arm from the ball joint and then turn the wheel bearing housing toward the outside to take the load off the control arm.

Left lower control arm:

-- Remove the exhaust system bracket from the subframe -arrows-.

-- Remove the pendulum support. Refer to PENDULUM SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (1.5L) or PENDULUM SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (2.0L) .

-- Loosen the exhaust system double clamp. Refer to OVERVIEW - MUFFLER (1.5L) or OVERVIEW - MUFFLER (2.0L) .

-- Completely assemble the Engine Support :T10533  to reach the shortest length.

-- Install the Engine Support :T10533  -2- with the highest angle -arrow- on the transmission. To do so use the short bolts of the pendulum support thread -1-.

-- Push the engine and transmission assembly forward until the Engine Support - Threaded Rod :T10533/5  -3- can be inserted in the pendulum support bearing.

-- Turn the Engine Support :T10533  until the distance -a- between the bolt for the control arm -1- and the transmission is reached.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows-. While doing so, counterhold at the rear bolt at the top of the nut.

-- Swivel the control arm -1- toward the rear and then remove it from the subframe in -direction of arrow-.
