Front Axle Differential Lock Fluid, Draining And Filling

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

CAUTION:

Risk of injury to the eyes and hands by escaping oil.

- Wear protective eyewear.

- Wear acid-resistant safety gloves.

-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .

-- Place the : SMN372500  under the final drive.

-- Use the : VAS6675  to drain the oil.

-- Position the Funnel so that there is no contact with the oil.

-- Remove the oil drain plug -arrow- from the front axle differential lock.

-- Completely drain the Front Axle Differential Lock Fluid.

-- Insert and tighten the new oil drain plug -arrow-.

-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .

Fill with Front Axle Differential Lock Fluid 

-- Replace oil filler plug after removing.

-- Place the : SMN372500  under the front axle differential lock.

-- Use a Commercially Available Hose approximately (1.50 m long) with Outer Circumference approximately 15 mm and a Commercially Available Funnel to fill:

-- Route the hose -A- through the engine compartment.

-- Clean the area near the front axle differential lock oil filler plug -arrow-.

-- Cover neighboring components.

-- Remove the oil filler plug -arrow-.

-- Insert hose -A- in the filler hole -arrow-.

-- Insert the funnel in hose -A-.

-- Fill with oil until some starts to escape from between the hose and the oil fill hole.

-- Remove hose. Some extra oil may drain out.

-- Insert new oil filler plug -arrow- and tighten.

-- If necessary, clean the area near the front axle differential lock oil filler plug -arrow- and neighboring components.
