Catalytic Converter Bracket, Removing And Installing
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Rivet pliers for example Pneumatic Rivet Gun: VAS6759
Depending on the equipment of the vehicle a lock washer -item ) OVERVIEW - EMISSIONS CONTROL SYSTEM, VEHICLES WITHOUT PARTICULATE FILTER - List Item: Lock Washer for the catalytic converter bracket can be installed. When the vehicle is >>set down<< the lock washer stops the catalytic converter from slipping out of the bracket. The lock washer can also be retrofitted if necessary. Components to retrofit. Refer to the Parts Information.
Removing the Bracket from the Catalytic Converter:
-- Remove the connector -2- from the bracket, disconnect it and free up the wires.
-- Loosen the clamp -1- for the catalytic converter -2- and push the clamp on the turbocharger.
-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .
-- If equipped, remove the center underbody trim panels. Refer to UNDERBODY TRIM PANELS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the nuts -2-.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and lower the catalytic converter as far as possible.
-- Drill out the pop rivets -item ) OVERVIEW - EMISSIONS CONTROL SYSTEM, VEHICLES WITHOUT PARTICULATE FILTER - List Item: Pop Rivet and remove the lock washer.
-- Remove the bracket from the catalytic converter.
Install the Bracket Using the Lock Washers:
-- Check if the pop rivets can be inserted in the mount on the catalytic converter. If necessary drill the holes to 7 mm.
-- Attach the bracket -1- on the mount on the catalytic converter.
-- Rivet the lock washers -3- as shown parallel to the rubber -2-.
Further assembly is performed in the reverse order of the removal.
