Instrument Panel CROSSMEMBER, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to BATTERY .

-- Remove the instrument panel. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the left plenum chamber cover. Refer to BULKHEAD .

-- Remove the bolt -1- inside the plenum chamber.

-- Remove the expanding pins -1 and 2-.

-- Remove the defroster duct -5- from the instrument panel crossmember -4-.

-- Remove the air distributor -3- from the heater and A/C unit.

-- Remove the steering wheel. Refer to STEERING WHEEL .

-- Remove the Steering Column Electronics Control Module -J527-. Refer to STEERING COLUMN SWITCH MODULE .

-- Remove the steering column from the crossmember. Refer to STEERING COLUMN .

-- Remove the left bolts -1-.

-- Remove the right bolts -2-.

On the Driver Side:

NOTE:

Mark the height and side position of the crossmember -2- in the vehicle around the nuts -1- and centering pin -3-.

-- Remove the nuts -1-.

On the Front Passenger Side:

NOTE:

Mark the height and side position of the crossmember -1- in the vehicle around the nuts -2- and centering pin -3-.

-- Remove the nut -2-.

-- Remove the harness connector mountings from the crossmember, depending on the equipment level of the vehicle.

-- Remove the nuts -1-.

-- Remove the nuts -2-.

-- Loosen the instrument panel crossmember -3- in the direction of the -arrow- and pull it slightly to the rear.

-- Carefully remove the instrument panel crossmember -3- from the vehicle with a second technician.
