ABS Control Module -J104- /ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, GASOLINE ENGINE: Removing

CAUTION:

Risk of destroying the brake lines by bending.

- Never forcefully bend the brake lines in the hydraulic unit area.

-- Read and note the present control module code.

-- On vehicles with a coded radio, note the code. Retrieve it if necessary.

-- Disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

-- If equipped, remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- If equipped, remove the heat shield -1-.

-- To do so, unclip the heat shield -arrow- from the bracket -2- and remove heat shield -1-.

-- Unclip the wiring guide.

-- Slide the locking mechanism downward in the direction of -arrow A-.

-- Release the locking mechanism in the direction of -arrow B-.

-- Remove the connector -1-.

-- Insert the : VAG1869/2  .

-- Attach the bleeder bottle bleed hose -1- to the left front brake caliper breather valve.

-- Open the breather valve.

-- Attach the bleeder bottle bleed hose -1- to the left rear brake caliper breather valve.

-- Open the breather valve.

-- Push the brake pedal at least 60 mm using the : VAG1869/2  .

-- Close the left front and left rear bleeder valves.

-- Do not remove the : VAG1869/2  .

NOTE:

Make sure no brake fluid gets on the contacts.

-- Remove the cover from the bulkhead and unclip the brake lines.

-- First label both brake lines -5 and 6-.

-- Remove the brake lines -5 and 6- from the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55-.

-- Immediately seal the brake lines and open connections using Sealing Plugs from Repair Kit: 1H0 698 311 A  or using suitable plugs from the : VAS6122  .

-- Label the remaining brake lines (brake calipers) -arrows- and remove.

-- Immediately seal the brake lines and open connections using Sealing Plugs from Repair Kit: 1H0 698 311 A  or using suitable plugs from the : VAS6122  .

-- Pull the ABS Control Module -J104- with the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55- upward from the shock absorbers in direction of -arrow-.

-- Remove the bracket in the vehicle from the hydraulic unit -arrows- (only on engines with too little clearance between the cross panel and engine).
