Transmission, Removing, Vehicles With 2.0L Engine

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Engine Support Bridge: 10-222A 
• Engine Support Bridge - Engine Support 35: 10-222A/35 
• Engine/Gearbox Support Shackle (2 pc.): 10-222A/12  (quantity: 2)
• Transmission Support - Pins 29: 3282/29 
• Transmission Support: 3282 
• Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS6931 
• Engine Bung Set: VAS6122 
• Insert Tool - 18mm: T10509  or : T10179 
• Socket - Xzn 14: T10061 
• Engine Support Device - Gearbox Bracket: T10346/1 
• Engine Support - Automatic Transmission Adapter: 10-222A/16 
• Engine Sling - Engine Bracket: 2024A/1 
• Tensioning Strap: T10038  (quantity: 2)
• Not illustrated: Socket - Sw15: V/175 

Removing 

-- Move the selector lever to >>P<<.

-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING [CDVC] or AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING [DCGA, CXDA] .

-- Remove the battery and battery tray. Refer to Battery .

-- Pry the selector lever cable -1- off the selector shaft lever -2- using for example an open end wrench.

-- Disconnect the connector -6- from the Multifunction Transmission Range Switch -F125- and free up the wire at the bracket.

-- Remove the bolts -5- from the cable bracket -4-. Do not remove the lock washer -3-.

-- Disengage the selector lever cable -1- from the bracket clip -2-.

-- Remove the starter. Refer to STARTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the upper bolts -arrows- connecting the transmission to the engine, for example, with a 12-point flex head socket wrench.

Engine, Supporting 

-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Unlock the retaining tab in direction of -arrow- and remove the left engine cover mount -1-.

-- Unclip the right mount -1- for the engine cover from the bracket -2-.

-- Install the : 10-222A/12  on the right lifting eye as shown below.

Attach the : 10-222A  as shown

1. Square Pipe from : 10-222A 
2. : 10-222A/35 
3. Spindles from : 10-222A 
4. : 10-222A/12 

• In addition, push the : 10-222A/16  onto the left side of the : 10-222A  as seen in the direction of travel. Refer to Fig 3.
• The : 10-222A/16  secures the : 10-222A  later in the procedure.

Secure the 10-222A as shown

-- Fasten the : T10346  or : T10346/1  to the rear left locating holes for the battery tray.

-- Use a M6 x 40 collar bolt or one of the bolts for the battery tray.

-- Secure the : 2024A/1  with the connector lock -arrow-.

-- Then engage the Spindles in the engine lifting eyes.

-- Lightly pretension the engine/transmission assembly and : 10-222A  using the Spindles.

-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .

-- Remove the left front wheel housing liner. Refer to FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the connector from the transmission as follows Push the retainer -1- in the direction of the -arrow-, open the hook -2- and then remove the connector -3- from the transmission.

-- Remove the bolt -A- and the ATF lines -2- from the thermostat -1-. The bolts -B- are not removed.

-- Seal the ATF lines and connections on the thermostat with suitable plugs taken from the : VAS6122  .

Remove the subframe. Refer to Subframe .

-- Remove the right and left drive axle from the transmission. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Secure both drive axles to the suspension strut using the : T10038  .

Do not damage the surface protection of the shafts.

-- Remove the six converter nuts -arrow- with the : V/175  .

-- To do so, turn the engine 60° further in the direction of engine rotation -arrow- using the : T10172A  .

-- Remove the transmission/fluid pan bolts -arrows-.

-- Remove the front bolts for attaching the engine to the transmission -1-. The upper bolt is secured with a nut -arrow-.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- from the left subframe mount for the transmission.

-- Lower approximately to the dimension -a- using the spindles on the : 10-222A  .

Dimension -a- = approximately 70 mm

The transmission is disconnected from the engine in this position.

-- Place the : 3282  -A- on the : VAS6931  -B-.

Install the : 3282  on the transmission as follows with the Mounting Elements:

• The : VAS6931  with : 3282  is positioned under the transmission -1- so that the spindle -left arrow- points forward in the direction of travel.
• The spindle -right arrow- points in the direction of travel to the left.
• The Mounts -C- are positioned in the groove surrounding the transmission fluid pan as shown.
• The Pin -D- locks in the recess on the front right side of the transmission.

-- Install the : 3282/29  in the rear hole for the pendulum support bolt on the transmission.

-- Support the transmission by carefully lifting it using the : VAS6931  .

-- Remove the last engine/transmission connecting bolt.

-- Pry up the transmission -3- from the engine at the same time push the torque converter -1- against the transmission in the direction of -arrow- using for example a screwdriver -2-.

-- Carefully drain the transmission, ensure >>clearance<< to other components.

-- After the removing the transmission, secure the torque converter from falling. Refer to Figure.

-- Install the transmission. Refer to TRANSMISSION, INSTALLING .
