Engine And Transmission, Separating

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Procedure 

-- Remove the connectors from the bracket and disconnect them, and then free up the wires:

  1. For Heated Oxygen Sensor -G39-
  2. For Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 -G108-
  3. For Oxygen Sensor after Three Way Catalytic Converter -G130-
  4. For Oxygen Sensor 2 after Catalytic Converter -G131-
  5. For Oxygen Sensor 3 after Catalytic Converter -G287-
  6. For Oxygen Sensor 4 after Catalytic Converter -G288-
  7. For Heated Oxygen Sensor 3 -G285-
  8. For Heated Oxygen Sensor 4 -G286-

-- Remove the front and rear nuts -1, 2 and 3- and then remove the left exhaust manifold with the catalytic converters.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- from the left transmission mount and the heat shield -1-.

-- Remove the bolt -arrow- from the power steering hydraulic pipe on the left transmission support.

Continuation for All Vehicles:

-- Remove the bolt in direction of -arrow- and remove the left transmission mount from the transmission support.

CAUTION:

Risk of destroying the transmission control module (Mechatronic) with static discharge.

  • Do not touch connector terminals in the transmission connector with hands.

-- To discharge static electricity, touch the transmission housing (without wearing gloves).

-- Turn the twist lock counter-clockwise -arrow- and disconnect the connector from the transmission.

-- Loosen the clamp -arrow- and remove the coolant hose from the left lower coolant pipe.

-- Remove the front and rear nuts -1, 2 and 3- and then remove the right exhaust manifold with the catalytic converters.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- from the right transmission mount and the heat shield -1-.

-- Remove the bolt -2- and then remove the right transmission mount from the transmission support.

-- Disconnect the connectors -1 and 2- and remove them from the bracket.

-- Press the release buttons and remove the secondary air hoses -arrows-.

-- Move the secondary air injection hose with the electric wiring harness to the side.

-- Remove the bolt -1- for the right rear coolant pipe from the transmission.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- on the left and right side, and remove the bracket for the Secondary Air Injection Pump Motor -V101- /Secondary Air Injection Pump Motor 2 -V189-.

NOTE:

Place a cloth underneath to catch any leaking coolant.

-- Loosen the hose clamps -upper arrow-, then remove the bolt -1- and the coolant hose.

-- Remove the coolant pipe on the right side of the transmission.

NOTE:

Ignore -bottom arrow-.

-- Remove the left and right drive axle from the transmission flange shaft. Refer to Drive Axle, Removing and Installing .

-- Remove the cover -arrow- and ribbed belt idler roller.

-- Equip the Scissor Lift Table:VAS6131B  with the Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set:VAS6131/10  and Scissor Lift Table - A6 Set:VAS6131/12  , and Scissor Lift Table - Q7 Set Articulated Joint Support:VAS6131/13-7  as follows:

NOTE:

The remaining mounting elements remain unchanged.

-- Secure the Scissor Lift Table - Q7 Set - Articulated Joint Support:VAS6131/13-7  to the front right side of the engine in the threaded hole with a M10 x 65 bolt -arrow-, as shown.

-- Tighten the Scissor Lift Table - Q7 Set - Articulated Joint Support:VAS6131/13-7  to 20 Nm on the scissor lift table.

-- Attach the mounting elements from the Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set:VAS6131/10  and Scissor Lift Table - A6 Set:VAS6131/12  on the left of the transmission, as shown in the illustration.

-- Attach the mounting elements from the Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set:VAS6131/10  and Scissor Lift Table - A6 Set:VAS6131/12  on the right of the transmission support, as shown in the illustration.

-- Turn the left and right spindles upward until all the mounting pins come into contact with the mounting points.

-- Fasten the mounting element base plates to 20 Nm on the Scissor Lift Table:VAS6131B  .

-- Remove the starter bolts -1 and 2-.

-- Press the starter off the transmission and leave it in the installation position.

-- Remove the remaining bolts -3 through 14- that connect the engine to the transmission.

NOTE:

Ignore -A-.

-- Loosen the clamping screws -1- on sides of the Scissor Lift Table:VAS6131B  and pull the rear table top with the transmission toward the rear in direction of -arrow-.
