Steering Column, Removing And Installing: Installing

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2018 Audi S8, 2018 Audi A8 Quattro, 2017 Audi S8, 2017 Audi A8 Quattro, and 2016 Audi S8. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Installation is the reverse of removal, with special attention to the following:

WARNING:

Note the following before installing the steering column:

  • Route the wiring harnesses exactly the way they were before removal.
  • Secure the wiring harnesses exactly the way they were before removal.
  • Install all the cable ties that were loosened or cut in the same locations when installing the steering column.
  • If the vehicle has the steering lock lockup system, then make sure the wiring harness for the Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module -J764- does not get caught when adjusting the steering column and that it does not touch any sharp edges.
  • Pull on the steering intermediate shaft to make sure it is secure before tightening the bolt on the universal joint.

If the steering column was replaced, use the bolt -item 6-  OVERVIEW - STEERING COLUMN installed in the new steering column for the Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module -J764-.

Follow the Assembly Sequence when Installing.

-- Position the steering column with the positioning pins -arrows- in the positioning holes on the central tube.

-- Install all bolts loosely.

-- Tighten the bolts -2- to the tightening specification (starting on the right side).

-- Tighten the bolts -3- to the tightening specification (starting on the right side).

-- Tighten the remaining bolts to the tightening specification.

-- Install the steering intermediate shaft -3- on the steering column -1- as far as the stop and tighten the bolt -2-.

WARNING:

Pull on the steering intermediate shaft -3- to make sure fits correctly. Then tighten the bolt -2-.

-- Tighten the bolt -2-.

NOTE:

The threaded hole for the bolt must always be cleaned (for example, using a thread tap).

-- The Steering Angle Sensor -G85- must be calibrated after installing the steering column switch module.

-- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester connect and perform vehicle-specific entry into "Guided Fault Finding".

-- Select the corresponding program in "Guided Functions".

-- Follow the prompts on the screen.

-- A basic setting must be perform to the dynamic steering if the steering column was replaced. Refer to DYNAMIC STEERING BASIC SETTING .
