-- Disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY [For engine(s) CYFB] .

-- Remove the boot with the gearshift knob and, if necessary, remove the noise insulation from the center console frame as well. Refer to appropriate service information. .

Scirocco

-- Remove the footwell trim panel from the center console and the ashtray or storage compartment and then remove the center console. Refer to STORAGE COMPARTMENTS AND COVERS .

Golf Convertible

-- Remove the ashtray or storage compartment from the center console. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE .

The footwell rear channel is located above the nut for the center console on some vehicles:

-- Remove the center console. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE .

-- Remove the rear channel footwell. Refer to appropriate service information. .

-- Remove the center console securing bracket nuts. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE .

-- Remove the nuts from the gearshift housing. Refer to Installed position of gearshift housing nuts arrows. .

-- Lower the gearshift housing.

• If it is not possible to lower the gearshift housing, then the nuts on the gearshift housing are located under the bracket on the center console.
• Then remove the center console securing bracket. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE .

If the center console bracket cannot be removed separately:

-- Remove the center console. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE .
