Selector Mechanism, Adjusting

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Connecting Pin:T10027A 

Adjusting Requirements

• Operating and transfer elements of shift mechanism must be in proper condition.
• Shift mechanism must move freely.
• The transmission, clutch and clutch mechanism must also be in proper condition.
• Transmission in neutral.

-- Remove the entire air filter housing if the locking elbow -A- to tighten the gearshift shaft and the safety mechanism for the shift cable and selector shaft are not accessible.

Vehicles with Turbo Diesel Engine

-- Refer to AIR FILTER .

Vehicles with Gasoline Engine

-- Refer to AIR FILTER [For engine(s) CYFB] .

Opening the cable retainers on the transmission:

-- Pull the safety mechanism on the cable retainer from the shift cable and the selector cable all the way forward in the direction of -arrow 1- and then lock it to the left in the direction of -arrow 2-.

• Both cables must be able to move into the locks.

Move the Gearshift Shaft into the Setting Position.

-- Push the gearshift shaft down in the direction of -arrow 1-.

-- While press the gearshift shaft down, rotate the bracket -A- in direction of -arrow 3- upward and simultaneously in direction of -arrow 2- press it in until it engages in the gearshift shaft.

-- Remove the shift lever boot from the center console and fold upward over the gearshift knob. Refer to .

Move the Gearshift Lever into the Setting Position:

CC, Golf Convertible, Passat and Scirocco

-- Engage the gearshift lever in neutral and press the gearshift lever to the left and hold.

-- Insert the Connecting Pin:T10027A  through hole -A- and into hole -B-.

-- Engage the gearshift lever in neutral and press the gearshift lever to the left and hold.

-- Insert the Connecting Pin:T10027A  through the noise insulation -A-, hole -B- and into hole -C-.

-- Place the left seat belt -1- around the gearshift lever and apply the pull force of the belt onto the gearshift lever.

The gearshift lever is secured by the Connecting Pin:T10027A  (-A-).

The gearshift lever is also pushed and held by the belt toward the 1st-2nd gear stop direction of -arrow-.

This will remove the >>play in the gearshift mechanism<<.

Making a Quick Adjustment:

-- It must be ensured that the selector and shift cable -B- are inserted in the retainers -A- without tension.

-- Turn the safety mechanism on the cable retainer for the shift cable and selector cable all the way to the right in the direction of -arrow 1-.

The spring will push the safety mechanism into the starting position in the direction of -arrow 2-.

-- Now push the locking elbow -A- back in the starting position direction of -arrow 2-.

• The locking elbow -A- must get pushed out of the transmission in the direction of -arrow 1-.

-- Remove the securing belt from the gearshift lever.

CC, Golf Convertible, Passat and Scirocco

-- Pull the mandrel out of the holes -A and B-.

-- Remove the Locking Pin:T10027A  from the noise insulation -A- and the holes -B and C-.

Continuation for All

-- Install the boot and the noise insulation (if equipped). Refer to OVERVIEW - GEARSHIFT KNOB AND COVER .

-- Make sure the gearshift shaft moves easily.

-- Check the selector mechanism. Refer to SELECTOR MECHANISM, CHECKING .

-- Install the air filter housing.

Vehicles with Turbo Diesel Engine

Vehicles with Gasoline Engine
