Rear Window, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Remove the rear lid lower trim panel. Refer to REAR LID LOWER TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Disconnect rear window defroster and window antenna connectors and secure to center of window with adhesive tape.

Vehicle with Rear Spoiler

-- Remove the rear spoiler. Refer to SPOILER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, SEDAN .

WARNING:

Always wear protective goggles and leather gloves when removing the rear window.

-- Carefully pierce the : VAG1474/2 -1- through the adhesive bead from the inside to the outside in the area shown.

-- Thread the cutting wire -2- in the awl -1- and pull it through the adhesive into the vehicle interior.

-- Lay the cutting wire -1- all around under the rear window in the window glass flange as shown.

-- Make sure that the cutting wire is inserted under the rear window at corners.

CAUTION:

The ends of the wire must not be twisted when cutting through the adhesive -arrow-.

-- Tighten the wire ends on the : VAG1654A -2- and the : VAG1351/1 -1-.

-- Position the : VAG1654A -2- as shown.

-- Move the : VAG1654A -2- accordingly and cut the rear window free.

-- During the cutting free operation, press the cutting wire -3- against the rear window using plastic wedge in order to have clearance at the window flange.

-- Remove window from window opening.
