Engine, Installing: Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE:

Replace the bolts that have been tightened to the tightening angle.

Replace the self-locking nuts and bolts, sealing rings, seals and O-rings.

The hose connections as well as the air guide pipes and hoses must be free of oil and grease before installing.

Secure all hose connections with hose clamps.

During installation, all cable ties must be installed at the same location.

-- Install intermediate plate, refer to Fig 1.

-- If the alignment sleeves -A- for centering the engine and transmission are missing inside the cylinder block, then install the sleeves.

-- If no needle bearing is installed in crankshaft, install needle bearing CRANKSHAFT NEEDLE BEARING, REPLACING .

-- Attach transmission to engine.

-- Install starter [For transmission(s) 0A4, 02E, 09G, 02Q] Removal and Installation .

-- Guide the engine/transmission subassembly into the body.

-- Install the bolts -1- for the engine mount by hand all the way.

-- Install the bolts -2- for the transmission mount by hand all the way.

NOTE:

Only tighten the bolts to the specification when installing the subframe mount OVERVIEW - SUBFRAME MOUNT .

Depending on the transmission there can be two or three bolts.

-- Remove the Engine Bracket T10359 from engine.

-- Install the driveshafts, refer to Description and Operation .

-- Install the A/C compressor, refer to Description and Operation .

-- Install the ribbed belt, refer to RIBBED BELT .

-- Adjust the subframe mount, refer to SUBFRAME MOUNT, ADJUSTING .

-- Install Battery Tray, refer to [For transmission(s) 0A4, 02E, 09G, 02Q] Description and Operation .

-- For the electrical connections and wiring routing, refer to [For transmission(s) 0A4, 02E, 09G, 02Q] Description and Operation and Wiring diagrams, Troubleshooting & Component locations.

-- Install the secondary air lines and connect to the Secondary Air Injection Pump Motor -V101- and the Secondary Air Injection Solenoid Valve -N112-, refer to Secondary Air Injection Pump Motor -V101- and Secondary Air Injection Solenoid Valve -N112- .

-- Install the air filter housing, refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING .

-- Check the oil level, refer to .

CAUTION:

There is a risk of destroying control modules with excess voltage.

  • Do not use a charger as a starting aid.

-- Attach the coolant hoses to the heater core.

-- Fill with coolant COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING => .

NOTE:

The drained coolant may be used again only if the cylinder head or the cylinder block is not replaced.

Do not reuse contaminated coolant.

-- Install subframe, refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Install front wheel housing liners, refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Adjust chain length after replacing the engine. Select 01 - Chain Length Adaptation Diagnosis  in Guided Functions  using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
