Fuel System, Filling/Bleeding

Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required

CAUTION:

Follow the points below to avoid running the high pressure pump dry (very low tolerances) and to start the engine quickly after replacing the components:

  • If fuel system components between the fuel tank and high pressure fuel pump are removed or replaced, then the fuel system must be filled/bleed before the first engine start.

To Fill The High Pressure Fuel Pump With Fuel, Proceed As Follows:

-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

-- Turn on the ignition and select the following menu items on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester:

-- Start the engine after filling the fuel system.

-- Let the engine run a few minutes at a moderate speed and then turn it off.

-- Check the fuel system for leaks.

-- Erase the DTC memory entry using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

-- Perform a road test and fully depress the accelerator pedal at least one time.

-- Check the high pressure system again for leaks.

NOTE:

If there is still air in the fuel system, the engine may switch to emergency mode during the road test. Turn off the engine and erase the DTC memory. Then continue the road test.

-- Erase the DTC memory entry using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
