A/C Compressor, Removing And Installing On Bracket
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Torque Wrench 1331 5-50Nm VAG1331
Note the vehicles with a Start/Stop System. Refer to START/STOP SYSTEM .
Removing
-- Note safety precautions. Refer to HANDLING REFRIGERANT .
-- See notes. Refer to WORKING ON THE REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT .
-- Remove the noise insulation under the engine. Refer to NOISE INSULATION .
Depending on the engine type, remove the right front wheel housing liner. Refer to WHEEL HOUSING LINER .
-- Remove the ribbed belt. Refer to RIBBED BELT .
-- Disconnect the connector -6- from the A/C compressor -1-.
Image shows only an installation and engine versions.
-- Remove the hex bolt -5- and then remove the A/C compressor -1-.
Do not loosen the refrigerant pipes on the A/C compressor if only the auxiliary components bracket is being removed.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
-- Thoroughly clean the contact surfaces on the A/C compressor and bracket.
-- Insert the alignment sleeve -arrows- in the A/C compressor.
Make sure the alignment sleeves are seated correctly and the contact surfaces are clean. Alignment sleeves that are installed incorrectly and dirty or damaged contact surfaces can lead to alignment irregularities between the compressor and engine. Alignment irregularities over operating time cause damage to the A/C compressor.
Risk of damaging the A/C compressor.
- Refrigerant oil may accumulate in the compression chamber of the removed A/C compressor depending on how it was stored.
- To avoid damage to the A/C Compressor during operation:
- After installing a new A/C Compressor or filling fresh refrigerant oil, turn the A/C Compressor 10 times by hand before installing the ribbed belt.
Tightening Specifications
Pay attention to the following when starting the engine for the first time after filling the refrigerant circuit:
-- Follow the information on servicing the A/C system after installing the compressor.
