A/C Compressor: Removing

-- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.

-- Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Refer to REFRIGERANT SYSTEM, RECOVERY .

-- Remove the nuts (2 and 4) that secure the A/C discharge line (1) and the A/C (5) to the A/C compressor (3).

-- Disconnect the A/C discharge and suction lines from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the O-ring seals and gaskets.

AC Compressor

-- Raise and support the vehicle.

-- Remove the splash shield from the right side frame rail. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) from the A/C compressor (7).

-- Remove the one bolt (2) and three nuts (5 and 6) that secure the A/C compressor to the engine.

CAUTION:

A stud with integral spacer (4) is used at the lower rear of the A/C compressor. Always use the fastener designed for this location. Failure to reinstall the stud with spacer will cause serious compressor and accessory drive damage.

-- Remove the A/C compressor from the engine compartment. Remove the two studs (3) and the spacer stud (4) as necessary.

-- Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and compressor ports.



-- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.

-- Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Refer to REFRIGERANT SYSTEM, RECOVERY .

-- Remove the nuts (2 and 4) that secure the A/C discharge line (1) and the A/C suction line (5) to the A/C compressor (3).

-- Disconnect the A/C discharge and suction lines from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the O-ring seals and gaskets.

-- Raise and support the vehicle.

-- Remove the splash shield from the right side frame rail. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Disconnect the wire harness connector from the A/C compressor clutch coil.

-- Remove the one bolt (2) and two nuts (3) that secure the A/C compressor to the engine.

-- Remove the A/C compressor from the engine compartment.

-- Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and compressor ports.
