Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Mercury Mariner and 2010 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Motorcraft® Electric Compressor Oil only must be used as a refrigerant system lubricant for hybrid vehicles. Addition of any oil other than Motorcraft® Electric Compressor Oil to the hybrid vehicle refrigerant system will damage the electric Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor and contaminate the refrigerant system. Refer to REFRIGERANT OIL ADDING the Refrigerant Oil Adding procedure .
  1. Recover the refrigerant. For additional information, refer to AIR CONDITIONING (A/C) SYSTEM RECOVERY, EVACUATION AND CHARGING .
  2. Remove the DC/DC converter. For additional information, refer to DIRECT CURRENT/DIRECT CURRENT (DC/DC) CONVERTER .
  3. Remove the front bumper cover. For additional information, refer to BUMPER COVER -- FRONT .
  4. Remove the evaporator-to-compressor suction line bracket nut.
    • To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
  5. Remove the condenser outlet fitting nut and disconnect the fitting.
    • Discard the O-ring seal and gasket seal.
    • To install, tighten to 15 Nm (133 lb-in).
  6. Remove the evaporator outlet line fitting nut and disconnect the fitting.
    • Discard the O-ring seal and gasket seal.
    • To install, tighten to 15 Nm (133 lb-in).
  7. Remove the receiver/drier inlet fitting nut and disconnect the fitting.
    • Discard the O-ring seal and gasket seal.
    • To install, tighten to 15 Nm (133 lb-in).
  8. Remove the condenser-to-receiver/drier line.
  9. NOTE: Motorcraft® Electric Compressor Oil only must be used as a refrigerant system lubricant for hybrid vehicles. Addition of any oil other than Motorcraft® Electric Compressor Oil to the hybrid vehicle refrigerant system will damage the electric Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor and contaminate the refrigerant system. Refer to REFRIGERANT OIL ADDING the Refrigerant Oil Adding procedure .
  10. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Install new gasket seals and O-ring seals.
    • Add the correct amount of clean electric A/C compressor oil to the refrigerant system. For additional information, refer to REFRIGERANT OIL ADDING the Refrigerant Oil Adding procedure .
  11. Evacuate, leak test and charge the refrigerant system. For additional information, refer to AIR CONDITIONING (A/C) SYSTEM RECOVERY, EVACUATION AND CHARGING .
