Transmission, Installing

Jetta from MY 2010 with 2.0L TDI CR Engine 

NOTE:

Refer to "Transmission, Removing" for a list of the required special tools, refer to TRANSMISSION, REMOVING .

Install in reverse order of removal. However, important steps should be named here:

-- Check the needle bearing -arrow- inside the crankshaft. Replace the needle bearing if it is damaged or worn, refer to Removal and Installation .

-- If it is not damaged, lubricate lightly with High-Temperature Grease G 052133A2.

-- The input shaft pins (not splines) must also be lightly lubricated.

-- Make sure both alignment sleeves between the engine and the transmission fit correctly.

-- Make sure the intermediate plate fits correctly.

-- Guide the selector lever cable into the mounting bracket as soon as possible.

Pay attention to the selector lever cable when raising the transmission. Do not fail to place it in the cable mounting bracket early. 

Do not grease the selector lever cable.

Guide the engine and transmission together by hand until the entire surface of both flanges come into contact with one another.

If they do not, something is incorrect! 

-- Adjust the transmission mount until the engine and transmission are aligned.

-- Turn the crankshaft slightly if necessary.

-- Insert transmission without pinching any lines.

-- Attach transmission to engine. Tightening Specifications, Transmission to Engine, refer to TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .

Install the left subframe mount as follows:

-- Replace all bolts -1- and -2- for the left subframe mount.

-- Install all the new bolt first hand-tight.

-- First secure the transmission bracket -A- to the transmission using the bolts -1-.

-- Align the engine/transmission in its installed position. Lift until the transmission bracket is touching the transmission mount completely.

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging threads in transmission bracket by inserting bolts crooked.

  • Before installing bolts -2-, transmission bracket and transmission mount support arm must be absolutely parallel to each other. If necessary, lift the back of the transmission with Engine/Transmission Jack.

Install the engine/transmission mount without tension, refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Then tighten the bolts -2- to the tightening specification, refer to TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .

WARNING:

Do not remove the Engine Support Bridge 10-222A until all of the left and right subframe mount bolts have been tightened to the specification.

-- Remove the Engine Support Bridge 10-222A.

-- Install starter, refer to Removal and Installation .

Connect the connector -A- on the DSG® transmission Mechatronic -J743- as follows:

-- The arrow -D- on the DSG® Transmission Mechatronic -J743- -B- must line up with the connector -A- as well as with the tab -C-.

-- Connect the connector -A- carefully all the way and then turn the lock clockwise in direction of -arrow-.

-- Attach the driveshafts to the transmission, refer to Drive Axles Overview .

-- Install the heat shield over the right driveshaft, refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Install the subframe and steering gear, refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Attach the pendulum support to the transmission using new bolts, refer to Description and Operation .

-- Selector lever cable lock washers -arrows- must be replaced.

-- Always adjust selector lever cable, refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, ADJUSTING .

-- Check the coolant level and fill if necessary, refer to General Information .

-- Assemble the exhaust system and then attach it to the subframe, refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Install the plenum chamber cover, refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Install the bolts -arrows- for the left and right lock carrier brackets to the tightening specification, refer to Description and Operation .

-- Install the battery tray and the battery, refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Install the air filter, refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Connect the battery and follow the procedure regarding what to do after connecting a battery, refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Install the engine cover, refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Install the left front wheel housing liner, refer to Description and Operation .

-- Install the noise insulation, refer to Description and Operation .

-- Install the front wheels, refer to Removal and Installation .



Jetta from MY 2011 with 2.0L TFSI Engine

NOTE:

Refer to "Transmission, Removing" for a list of the required special tools, refer to TRANSMISSION, REMOVING .

Install the engine/transmission mount without tension, refer to [For engine(s) CCTA, CBFA] Removal and Installation .

Install in reverse order of removal. However, important steps should be named here:

-- Remove the Engine Support Bridge 10-222A.

-- Install starter, refer to Removal and Installation .

Connect the connector -A- on the DSG® Transmission Mechatronic -J743- as follows:

-- The arrow -D- on the Mechatronic -B- must line up with the connector -A- as well as with the tab -C-.

-- Connect the connector -A- carefully all the way and then turn the lock clockwise in direction of -arrow-.

-- Always adjust selector lever cable, refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, ADJUSTING .

-- Check the coolant level and fill if necessary, refer to [For engine(s) CCTA, CBFA] General Information .

-- Assemble the exhaust system and attach the exhaust system bracket to the subframe, refer to [For engine(s) CCTA, CBFA] Removal and Installation .

-- Install the plenum chamber cover, refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Install the bolts -arrows- for the left and right lock carrier brackets to the tightening specification, refer to Description and Operation .

-- Install the battery tray and the battery, refer to Removal and Installation .
