Transmission Fluid Level, Checking And Adding
Use the transmission fluid available as a replacement part.
Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required
- Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051B, for example
- Oil Collecting and Extracting Device V.A.G 1782
- Adapter for Oil Filling VAS 6262 A
Requirements
- The vehicle is level and all hoist supports are the same height.
- The noise insulation has been removed.
- Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051 is connected
- The transmission fluid should not be warmer than 45 °C (113 °F) when starting the procedure.
- Test temperature: 35-45 °C (95-113 °F)
Checking
-- Connect the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system and identify the vehicle in Guided Functions .
-- Select DSG transmission .
-- Select Check Fluid Level .
Let the transmission cool down if the oil temperature is higher than 45 °C (113 °F).
The engine is idling and the selector lever is in the >>P<< position.
-- Remove the drain plug.
Up to transmission production date "September 20, 2004", transmissions with two plugs were installed.
It is important to not switch the plugs. Remove the plug -A- only, near the pendulum support
Transmissions installed after September 20, 2004, have only one plug -A-.
-- Always replace the seal -arrow- on the drain plug.
Even if the level of the transmission fluid is too low, a small amount of transmission fluid will flow out of the overflow tube, because it fills during operation.
-- Let the excess fluid drain.
-- Install the drain plug with a new seal as soon as all the fluid has drained out (it starts to drip).
-- If no transmission fluid comes out, then fill.
Adding
-- Install the adapter for oil filling VAS 6262 A -A- into the adapter hole hand tight.
-- Fill with 1 liter of transmission fluid.
Shake the bottles before opening.
-- Install the oil filler adapter VAS 6262 to the quick release coupling and check:
If fluid flows out of the adapter hole:
Fluid must not be topped off.
-- Let the excess fluid drain.
-- As soon as the fluid has run out (it begins to drip), remove the adapter for oil filling VAS 6262 A and install the plug with a new seal.
If no fluid flows out of the adapter hole:
-- Add another liter.
Too little or too much transmission fluid will impair the transmission.
Drain plug tightening specification: 45 Nm
