Removal And Installation: Transmission: Removing: Notes

-- Move the selector lever into "P".

-- Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Remove the engine cover and the air filter. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Disconnect the hoses -arrows- and remove the intake hose from the throttle valve.

-- Unclip the Transmission Control Module -J217- -3- at top from the bracket -7- and remove upward.

-- Disconnect the connector -2- from the Transmission Control Module -J217-.

-- Remove the bolts -1- and -6-.

-- Move the bracket -7- with the power steering fluid reservoir to the side. Pay attention to the electric wires -4- and -5-.

The hoses remain attached to the power steering fluid reservoir.

-- Remove the battery. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Remove the battery tray. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Disconnect the cable by squeezing in the -direction of arrows 1- and then remove it from the cable mounting bracket in the -direction of arrow 2-.

NOTE:

Do not use pliers because the tabs on the cable bracket could break off.

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

-- Remove the selector lever cable -3- from the lever/selector shaft by using a wrench -1-.

-- Disconnect the connector -4- from the Multifunction Transmission Range Switch -F125- and free up the electric wire at the bracket -2-.

-- Disconnect the ground cable from the bolt -3- on the transmission bracket.

-- Disconnect the electric wires -1- and -2- from the starter and free them up.

-- Remove the bracket -1- from the upper starter bolt -arrow-.

-- Remove the bolt from the top of the starter.

NOTE:

When engine is warm, the cooling system is under pressure.

Cover the cap on the reservoir with a cloth and open it carefully before removing the coolant hoses.

Mark the ATF cooler coolant hoses to prevent confusing them when installing them later.

-- Clamp the coolant hoses to the ATF cooler with Hose Clamps - Up To 25 mm 3094 and Hose Clamps - Up To 40 mm 3093.

-- Open the spring clamps -A- and pull the coolant hoses -B- and -C- off the ATF cooler.

-- Seal the coolant hoses and connections with plugs taken from Engine Bung Set VAS 6122.

-- Remove the upper transmission bolts -arrows- to the engine, for example, with a 12-point double joint socket insert -A-.

-- Remove the plenum chamber cover. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

So that the engine/transmission assembly can be supported:

-- Remove the wires -1- from the transport strap -3-.

-- Remove the transport strap -3- from the engine -2- and pull it out of the eye -arrow-.

-- Attach one Engine/Gearbox Support Shackle (2 pc.) 10-222A/12 to this eye.

-- Remove the lock carrier trim. Refer to DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .
