SCR System Safety Precautions: Notes
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 Volkswagen Beetle. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Observe the Following when Working on the Selective Catalytic Reduction System:
WARNING:
The reducing agent can cause skin irritation:
- Avoid contact with skin and eyes! Wear protective gloves!
- If reducing agent should get on your skin, wash it off immediately with soap and water.
- If reducing agent gets in your eye, rinse the eye for several minutes with water.
- Never inhale or swallow the reducing agent!
- Should you swallow any reducing agent, rinse your mouth, drink plenty of water and contact a doctor immediately.
- Make sure the reducing agent does not come into contact with clothing or the vehicle body.
- If this occurs, wash immediately with clean water and then dry with a lint-free cotton cloth.
- If the reducing agent has already crystallized, use warm water and a sponge.
- Reducing agent that is not removed will crystallize and can damage the affected surface.
- For information on storage and disposal, refer to Environment Protection → Workshop Disposal! Ask the importer about storage and disposal information that is specific to the country.
Danger Due to Reducing Agent Leaking Out:
- To prevent large amounts of reducing agent from leaking out when opening the metering line, wait for the recirculation process to complete, refer to Refer to Reducing Agent, Automatic Regeneration .
Note the Following When Removing or Installing Any Components of the SCR-System:
- The Reducing agent tank must be empty when working on the SCR-System. When the reducing tank needs to be emptied, read the respective work description. Drain the reducing agent tank, refer to REDUCING AGENT TANK, DRAINING .
