Rain/Light Recognition Sensor

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Volkswagen Touareg, 2006 Volkswagen Touareg, 2005 Volkswagen Touareg, and 2004 Volkswagen Touareg. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The rain/light recognition sensor is designed so that it can be used again. The only requirement to use it again is that the connecting pad must not be damaged.

CAUTION:

Store the removed Rain/Light Recognition Sensor protected from dust and make sure the silicon connecting pads are not soiled up until reinstallation.

NOTE:

Removing and installing the Rain Sensor -G213- and Rain/Light Recognition Sensor -G397- is identical.

If the rain sensor was replaced by another rain sensor having a different part number, then it is necessary to code the new rain sensor. Refer to RAIN/LIGHT RECOGNITION SENSOR, CODING .

Rain sensors cannot be interchanged. Be sure to use the correct rain sensor.

Removal

-- Turn off the ignition and all electric consumers and remove the key.

-- Remove rearview mirror. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Disconnect electrical connection -A- from Rain/Light Recognition Sensor -1-.

NOTE:

While removing, the complete Rain/Light Recognition Sensor and not only the upper shell of the sensor must be pried off.

Installation

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

CAUTION:
  • Always clean the windshield surface inside the Rain/Light Recognition Sensor bracket before installing. Remove any traces of the connecting pad still remaining on the windshield.
  • Surface (connecting pads) of Rain/Light Recognition Sensor must not be soiled or damaged when installing. Always replace a sensor that has a damaged connecting pad.
NOTE:

If the surface (connecting pads) of Rain/Light Recognition Sensor is soiled, it can be potentially cleaned by applying and then pulling off one or more adhesive strips.

-- Clean windshield inside retaining plate, cleaning solution. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- If necessary, remove protective cap of new Rain/Light Recognition Sensor.

-- Insert Rain/Light Recognition Sensor -1- into retaining plate on windshield -2- and press it firmly.

NOTE:

Even if the sensor is installed correctly, small air bubbles can form between the windshield and the connecting pad. The contact surface must be free-of-bubbles after approximately 10 minutes.

-- Connect the connector -A- an secure sensor by installing harness cover.
