Selector Lever Cable, Checking And Adjusting: Notes

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) V.A.G 1331
Socket and Key T40031

Checking

-- Place the selector lever in the "P" position.

-- Remove the noise insulation on the bottom of the transmission.

-- Disconnect the selector lever cable -2- from the lever/selector shaft.

-- Shift the selector lever from the "P" to "S" positions.

Selector mechanism and selector lever cable must have freedom of movement during this, replace selector the lever cable or selector mechanism, if necessary.

-- Place the selector lever in the "P" position.

-- Shift the lever/selector shaft on the transmission into the "P" position. The catch must engage in the parking lock gear, both front wheels are locked (cannot be turned together in one direction).

It must be possible to push the selector lever cable onto the lever/selector shaft, if necessary adjust the selector lever cable.

-- Carefully press the selector lever cable onto the lever/selector shaft. Do not bend the lever/selector shaft when doing this, otherwise shifting can no longer be adjusted precisely.

-- Adjust the selector lever cable.
