Readiness code

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta, 2001 Volkswagen Golf, 2000 Volkswagen Jetta, 2000 Volkswagen Golf, and 2000 Volkswagen GTI. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Function

The readiness code is an 8 digit binary code that indicates the results of an exhaust related On Board Diagnostic (OBD).

Once On Board Diagnostic (OBD) has been successfully completed for a system (e.g. secondary air system), a 0 will be shown in the relevant position.

On Board Diagnostics are performed at regular intervals during normal vehicle operation. After repairing an exhaust related system, the readiness code should be generated to ensure that these systems are working according to specifications. If a malfunction is recognized during the diagnostic check, it is stored in DTC memory.

The readiness code is erased every time DTC memory is erased or when voltage supply is interrupted.
