Test sequence

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 11 other vehicles, including the 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio, 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, and 1999 Volkswagen Golf. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

- Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool (VAG 1552). Start engine and select "Address word" 01 of engine control module. When doing this engine must be running at idling speed. See VAG 1551 SCAN TOOL (ST), CONNECTING AND SELECTING ENGINE CONTROL MODULE .

Press keys 0 and 8 for function "Read Measuring Value Block" and confirm entry with Q key.

Press keys 0, 1 and 4 for "Display group number 14" and confirm entry with Q key.

Check total number of misfires in display zone 3:
Specification: 0 to 5
Check misfire recognition status in display zone 4:
Specification: activated

If the specifications are obtained:

Press --> key.
Press keys 0 and 6 for "End Output" function and confirm input with Q key.
Switch ignition off.

If the specifications are not attained:

Check spark plugs and ignition/HT cables. See IGNITION SYSTEM COMPONENTS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING
Check ignition coils with power output stages. See IGNITION COIL AND POWER OUTPUT STAGE, CHECKING .
Check injectors. See FUEL INJECTORS, CHECKING .
