Glow Plugs, Checking

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Checking Conditions 

Checking Sequence 

-- Disconnect harness connector from engine coolant temperature -G62- sensor (-arrow-).

NOTE:

Disconnecting -G62- simulates "engine cold" condition. Switching ON ignition initiates normal glow period.

-- Disconnect glow plug harness connectors from glow plugs -Q6-.

-- Switch ON ignition.

-- Switch Fluke 83 multi-meter to 20 volt range.

-- Connect multi-meter between cyl. 1 glow plug harness connector and ground then repeat checking sequence for cylinders 2, 3 and 4.

If no voltage present:

refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAM

If voltage present:

-- Switch OFF ignition.

-- Disconnect harness connectors from glow plugs.

-- Connect voltage tester VAG1527B lead to battery + using jumper wire from VW 1594 adaptor kit.

-- Touch tester probe to each glow plug, one after the other.

-- Remove and install glow plugs using 3220 swivel socket.

-- Erase DTC memory DTC MEMORY, ERASING .

-- Set the readiness code READINESS CODE, SETTING .
