Anti-Theft Coding, Activating

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2010 Volkswagen New Beetle, 2009 Volkswagen New Beetle, 2008 Volkswagen New Beetle, 2007 Volkswagen New Beetle, and 2006 Volkswagen New Beetle. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The radio only functions when the correct radio code is entered.

NOTE:

The radio code for the anti-theft coding is attached to the radio card next to the serial number. Refer to the appropriate service information.

For safety purposes, never store the radio card in the vehicle.

Perform the next steps in the following exact sequence:

-- Write down the radio code.

-- Switch on the radio.

"SAFE" is displayed.

"1000" appears in the display after three seconds.

-- Enter the 4-digit radio code with the radio station buttons -B- -1- to -4-. Enter the first digit with radio station button 1, the second digit with the radio station button 2, etc.

-- To enter the radio code, press the radio station button repeatedly until the desired digit appears on the display.

-- The numbers for the 4 digits range from 0 to 9.

-- If a higher number than desired is pressed, the number range restarts at 0 after 9 is pressed.

-- After the complete radio code is entered, press the rocker switch "Seek/Track" -C- to the right and hold for approximately 2 seconds ("> ") until the radio code is activated. Code activation is indicated by a brief acoustic signal.

NOTE:

If an incorrect radio code is entered, "SAFE" initially flashes on the display and is then displayed continuously.

The code can be repeated a second time (the number of coding attempts is displayed). If an incorrect radio code is entered again, the radio is locked for one hour. In this case leave the radio switched on with the ignition key for one hour. After one hour the coding attempts are no longer displayed. The anti-theft coding can be interrupted.

Sequence: 2 attempts, 1 hour lock.
