ABS/EDL/ASR Bosch 5.3 electrical/electronic components and installation locations: Notes
NOTE:
The following list refers to Fig 1.
- ABS hydraulic unit -N55-
- Located on left side of engine compartment.
The hydraulic unit consists of:
- ABS return flow pump -V39-
- Can be checked using "Guided fault finding" with VAS 5051
- Valve block (contains in/outlet valves).
- The ABS return flow pump -V39- and valve block must not be separated from one another
- Located on left side of engine compartment.
- ABS control module (w/EDL) -J104-
- Located on the hydraulic unit on left side of engine compartment.
- Can be checked using "Guided fault finding" with the VAS 5051
- Do not disconnect connector (26 pin) before checking of Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory. First switch ignition off then separate connector.
- ABS hydraulic unit -N55- for ABS/EDL or ABS/EDL with ASR
- Located on left side of engine compartment.
The hydraulic unit consists of:
- ABS return flow pump -V39-
- Can be checked using "Guided fault finding" with VAS 5051
- Valve block (contains the in/outlet valves).
- The ABS return flow pump -V39- and valve block must not be separated from one another
Distinguishing features:
Hydraulic unit can only be distinguished externally by different part numbers.
- Located on left side of engine compartment.
- Control module for ABS/EDL or ABS/EDL with ASR -J104-
- Located on hydraulic unit on left side of engine compartment.
- Can be checked using "Guided fault finding" with the VAS 5051
- Do not disconnect connector (26 or 31 pin) before checking of (DTC) memory. First switch ignition off then separate connector.
Distinguishing features:
Hydraulic unit can be distinguished externally by different part numbers.
With ASR wiring harness connection for ABS control module (w/EDL) -J104- has 5 additional contacts (31 pin).
- Traction control indicator light -K86-
- Location: In the instrument cluster
Function: See MALFUNCTIONS DISPLAYED BY WARNING LIGHTS (ABS/EDL/ASR BOSCH 5.3) .
- Location: In the instrument cluster
- Warning light for brake system -K118-
- Location: In the instrument cluster

- Location: In the instrument cluster
- ABS warning light -K47-
- Location: In the instrument cluster

- Location: In the instrument cluster
- Brake system vacuum pump -V192-
- Not installed in all vehicles
- Located on left side of engine compartment.
- Checked by On Board Diagnostic (OBD) in engine control module

- Checking. See Brake system vacuum pump V192 .
- Brake booster pressure sensor -G294-
- Not installed in all vehicles
- Location: in vacuum hose on brake servo
- Checked by OBD in engine control module
- Removing and installing. See Brake booster .
- Brake light switch -F-
- Adjusting. See Brake Light Switch F and Brake Pedal Switch F47 , removing, installing and adjusting, up to model year 2002 .
- Can be checked using "Guided fault finding" with the VAS 5051
- Data Link Connector (DLC)
- Location to model year 2000: below cover next to parking brake lever
- Location from model year 2001: below stowage compartment, driver's side
- Impulse wheel for right and left front speed sensors
- Removing and installing
- Right/left front ABS wheel speed sensor -G45-/-G47-
- Can be checked using "Guided fault finding" with the VAS 5051

- Right/left rear ABS speed sensor -G44-/-G46-
