DTC 00313/1423: Catalytic Converter, Defective Signal
- Press keys "0" and "6" on scan tool to select function 06 END DATA TRANSFER. Confirm by pressing "Q" key. Turn ignition off. Check additional fuel metering device connection for good terminal contact. Repair as necessary. If terminal contact is okay, disconnect metering pump connector. See Fig 1
. Measure resistance between metering pump terminals. If resistance is 8-12 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 8-12 ohms, replace metering pump.
- Connect Adapter (VAG 1598/18) to ECM wiring harness. Measure resistance between adapter terminal No. 27 and pump connector terminal No. 1, then between adapter terminal No. 45 and pump connector terminal No. 2. Continuity should be present. If resistance is not to specification, check wiring for short circuit. Repair as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to next step.
- Let catalyst to cool at least one hour. Connect VAG scan tool. Select ENGINE ELECTRONICS with address word 01. Display on scan tool should read RAPID DATA TRANSFER. Press "0" and "8" to select function 08 READ MEASURING VALUE BLOCK. Confirm with "Q" key. Compare voltage figures on both catalyst temperature sensors in display zone No. 1 (sensor No. 1) and zone No. 2 (sensor No. 2). Voltage figures should not deviate more than .060 volts. Check adoption value in display zone No. 4. Adoption value should be -10 to 10. If temperature values are not the same or adoption value is not within tolerance, see DTC 00310/1414:
CATALYST TEMPERATURE SENSOR NO. 1 OPEN/SHORT CIRCUIT TO GROUND and/or DTC 00312/1422:
CATALYST TEMPERATURE SENSOR NO. 2 OPEN/SHORT CIRCUIT TO GROUND test. If resistances are to specification, replace catalyst.
