Section 13 (Engine Controls - Tests W/Codes - Gasoline): Introduction

If no faults were found while performing preliminary inspection procedures, proceed with self-diagnostics. If no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) or only pass DTCs are present after entering self-diagnostics, proceed to appropriate TESTS W/O CODES - GASOLINE article for diagnosis by symptom (i.e., ROUGH IDLE, NO START, etc.).
NOTE:
Scan Tool (VAG 1551) is recommended by manufacturer; however, generic scan tools may be used.
