SERVICE INFORMATION
Adhere to the following precautions to prevent cold start difficulties:
- Battery fully charged. - Check charging system.
- Battery terminals free of oxidation and coated with a petroleum jelly (e.g. Vaseline). - Ensure battery terminals are snugged down tight.
- Engine correctly filled with winter oil. - Refer to owners' manual for correct weight and quantity of oil for the climatic conditions the vehicle will be subject to.
For example:
At arctic temperatures from -20° F to +20° F use SAE 5W-30 or SAE 5W-20.
At temperatures from -5° F to +60° F use SAE 10W-40 or SAE 10W-30.
Recommendations for engine starting under extreme cold ambient temperatures (below 32° F):
At extreme low temperatures your engine will probably start better if you depress the accelerator pedal slightly.
- Switch on ignition ONLY ONCE.
- Crank engine until it is running.
- Release accelerator pedal.
CAUTION:
Operating the ignition switch two or more times will flood the engine and prevent it from starting because the injectors will inject fuel each time the ignition switch is activated.
